When you step into the Hotel Nationalpark in Illmitz, you’ll immediately sense that here, sustainability isn’t just a concept on paper – it’s put into practice with heart, mind and a deep love for the region. Staying with us with a clear conscience isn’t just possible; it’s a given. Because we’re convinced that sustainable tourism isn’t just good for nature, but for us as people too.
On the following pages, we’ll show you how our philosophy is reflected in concrete actions – and what we’re doing to preserve the unique landscape of the Neusiedler See–Seewinkel National Park for future generations.
Green Electricity – Energy with Responsibility
At Hotel Nationalpark Illmitz, we rely on 100% clean energy – by conviction. Our electricity supply is based on three sustainable sources, ensuring that your stay is not only comfortable but also environmentally friendly.
A significant portion of our energy is generated directly on site: two photovoltaic systems with a total capacity of 20 kWp produce around 25,000 kWh of clean energy per year, depending on sunlight – delivered straight from the roof to your room.
The remaining electricity demand is covered by certified green energy from our regional supplier. This ensures that, beyond our own production, we rely exclusively on sustainable energy sources.
Heat from Nature – Comfort without Compromise
At Hotel Nationalpark Illmitz, you can enjoy cozy warmth – completely guilt-free. Our rooms are heated with a modern heat pump system that harnesses natural energy from the surrounding environment.
Thanks to a low-temperature heating system, we provide a comfortable indoor climate – efficient, eco-friendly, and quiet.

For us, a healthy start to the day begins with a lovingly prepared breakfast featuring local produce. At the Hotel Nationalpark Illmitz, we focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients from regional producers who work with care and responsibility. Our selection ranges from local fruit and vegetables to fresh bread and cheese and sausage specialities from the Seewinkel region. Many of our products come from local farmers and producers whom we know and value personally.
Guests with special dietary requirements are also well catered for: we offer vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options – so you can start your day exactly as you like.
WENIGER MÜLL. MEHR ACHTSAMKEIT.
LESS WASTE. MORE MINDFULNESS.
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
Waste prevention starts with purchasing
Bulk packaging instead of single portions
Preferential use of regional products with minimal packaging
Avoidance of PVC and single-use packaging at the breakfast buffet
Careful waste separation
Sorting into organic, paper, packaging, glass & residual waste
Training our team for proper disposal
Cooperation with local waste management services
Sustainability in daily operations
Reusable glass containers and storage jars
Refill stations instead of single-use products in service areas
Reduction of printed materials and transition to digital guest information
As part of our commitment to sustainability and environmental protection, we have implemented specific measures within our premises to reduce water and energy consumption.
Older washbasin taps with a flow rate of 15.2 litres per minute have been replaced with modern water-saving inserts that reduce the flow to just 7.2 litres per minute – without compromising on user comfort. Our showers have also been optimised: instead of 14 litres per minute, only 9.9 litres now flow – noticeably more efficient, without any loss of shower quality.
Through these measures, we save around 775 m³ of water and approximately 30,000 kWh of energy for hot water production each year. This equates to a CO₂ saving of around 8,500 kg – a valuable contribution to protecting our natural environment in and around the National Park.
In Harmony with Nature – Sustainability in the Seminar Area
At Hotel Nationalpark, it is our heartfelt concern to offer our seminar guests not only space for new thinking but also small impulses for a more conscious approach to our environment. Surrounded by nature, we set clear signs in the seminar area for mindful resource use:
- We use recycled paper – just as we do at our reception
Our pens are made from recycled paper
A carefully coordinated recycling and waste system runs throughout the entire hotel
At our break buffet, we focus on regional products and avoid single-use and portioned packaging
Refreshments are served in glass bottles – for the sake of nature
Bicycle and e-bike hire at Hotel Nationalpark
Discover the impressive natural beauty of the National Park in comfort on two wheels! We offer an in-house bicycle and e-bike hire service right here at the hotel. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely cycle around the hotel grounds or a more active ride around Lake Neusiedl – we have the perfect bike for your adventure (subject to a fee, depending on model and availability).
The region’s well-developed network of cycle paths invites you to enjoy a wide variety of tours – and, of course, we have a selection of maps and personalised route recommendations ready for you. Simply ask at reception – we’ll be happy to help!
Sustainable through digitalisation – a guest app instead of paper
At Hotel Nationalpark, we deliberately opt for digital solutions to reduce our environmental footprint.
Thanks to our handy guest app, you’ll receive all the important information about your stay directly on your smartphone – from check-in and check-out times to breakfast times, as well as tips for day trips and events in the region. This allows us to largely do without printed materials and paper at reception, in the rooms and in the restaurant, saving valuable resources every year.
This measure is a further step in our comprehensive sustainability strategy, through which we aim to actively protect the environment and nature – in particular the unique landscape of the National Park.
Natural Care – Thoughtfully Sustainable
Starting September 2025, Hotel Nationalpark will set another milestone in lived sustainability: in all bathrooms and public areas, we will exclusively use natural cosmetics from PURE GREEN Cosmetics – produced in the Tyrolean Alps, vegan, cruelty-free, and environmentally friendly.
Thanks to a well-designed refill system, we completely avoid single-use packaging, significantly reducing plastic waste – for greater environmental protection without compromising on care comfort.
"Our products combine Alpine purity with modern sustainability – for a natural care experience with responsibility." – PURE GREEN Cosmetics
This way, we combine true comfort with responsibility towards nature and the region – for you as our guest, for us as hosts, and for generations to come.
Sustainable Mobility at Hotel Nationalpark
As part of our comprehensive sustainability concept, Hotel Nationalpark specifically focuses on environmentally friendly mobility solutions. Two fully electric cars and an e-scooter are available to our guests, supporting emission-free travel in the region.
Our e-cars are also used as hotel taxis – providing comfortable and climate-friendly transfers from Vienna Airport or Neusiedl am See train station. In this way, your stay with us begins in an environmentally conscious and stress-free manner.
By using these vehicles, we actively reduce CO₂ emissions and make an important contribution to climate protection. At the same time, we promote gentle exploration of the surrounding national park – in perfect harmony with nature. Our guests can travel comfortably, quietly, and without local emissions.
This initiative is another step on our path toward responsible and forward-looking tourism.
